Photojournalism
"Click."
Photography has always been a part of my day-to-day life. Whether it's a 0.5 picture of one of my friends or an action shot at a school pep rally, I love to hear the camera go "click."
My technique with cameras and capturing images was not great entering my staff, but after taking part in a photography workshop at the University of Florida's Summer Media Institute my junior year, my confidence, and interests, in photography grew.
MLK day celebration
For the first time in my 9 years living in Oviedo, I attended the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration, an event I had never heard of. With performances of the Black National Anthem, a fashion show inspired by famous black designers, and a scholar bowl on Black history, it was an event that grew my appreciation for the holiday and its impact on my local community.

Girls Flag Football
Starting this year, our school launched a girls flag football team. I covered this story both as a writer and photographer, and this was my introduction to sports photography. Even though it was hot and I was wearing sweatpants, I loved getting close to the action and capturing the team's excitement for their upcoming season.

Science National Honor Society lake cleanup
As a member of the Science National Honor Society, I wanted to photograph our lake cleanup event with the organization SERV. As a nature-lover, I knew these photos would be fun to take, but also improve the story my online editor was writing about the event. I had a wonderful time walking up and down the lake, capturing both the volunteers and the wildlife.

Homecoming
"Neon Rally"
I have always had fun at my school's annual Neon Rally during our Homecoming week, but capturing photos for the event made it even better. Getting on the field to photograph the football team, the powderpuff performance, the band, and our dance team allowed me to see the rally from a different point of view.

Staff Photographer
"What's your photo?"
Often, many staffers will put their photo for a story to the last minute. To help with this issue I worked as our staff photographer my junior year, taking photos of events at school that needed quick coverage, or community events that I wanted to highlight.
