Broadcast Journalism
My video journey.
After taking two years of video production classes, I wanted to integrate more video coverage into our website---even though I was a first year staffer. My sophomore year, I became Multimedia Editor for The BluePrint and was on a quest to make the cleanest videos possible. This proved to be difficult. Showcase
For this video where I covered my school's culinary program, I made sure to write a script and plan out my shots before hand, using the template pictured below. By outlining the video as a whole in addition to writing questions, as I typically do for my stories, I was able to plan both my visual and auditory coverage at once, making for a clean and well-produced video package.
Video Plan
Video Packaging
What I love most about videography is that it can add visuals and a heightened sense of reality to a reader---text on a screen isn't always enough. Whether it's an outbreak of COVID on campus or a feature on the marching band's upcoming show, I hope my videos can add intrigue to stories and give viewers a new perspective.
On Camera Reporting
Before joining the newspaper staff my sophomore year, I was involved with my school's TV Production class and broadcast, WOOF TV. Here, I filmed and edited promos and announcements for their bi-weekly YouTube uploads. In addition, I got experience in on camera reporting with their Instagram special, The Daily Woof. I've included an example of this show below, where I anchored episodes throughout my freshman and sophomore year.
It's a learning process...
