In August 2023, wildfires spread across Maui with little-to-no warning from emergency systems. When investigating this event, I searched not only for how detrimental this event was to the island and its people, but how it could have been prevented. Citing information from Maui's Emergency Management Agency and direct sources helped me to backup my opinion and strengthen my calls to action.
